Abstract: The purpose of this research, as the title points to, is to study the issues of commitment and language of African literature in Ngugi Wa Thiong’o’s essays: “the Writer in a Changing Society” selected from Homecoming (1972), “Writers in Politics” from the book Writers in Politics (1981) and “the Language of African Literature” extracted from Decolonizing the Mind (1986). The objective of my analysis is to show Ngugi’s conception of the relation between the commitment of African writers and the language in which they should produce their creative works
